M-Bus protocol is a data bus standard launched by EU, stipulating communication modes among water, heat, gas and electric meters. 

WM-Bus, an open automatic meter reading standard at Sub-1GHz RF, is the RF version of M-Bus. Compared with M-Bus, wireless M-Bus can automatically form the network without extra wiring. The installation is much more convenient and efficient. It has been widely employed in EU. China is also implementing various related projects using WM-bus solution.

Most water meters, gas meters and heat meters contain batteries.
